Every Moment Matters
I know as a mom, it’s so easy to put things off until they become important and/or need to be done and I can’t put them off anymore. So, I tell myself I’ll wait until [insert whatever reason I can come up with] before I do [what I could just do right now]. Guilty as charged!
Even as a photographer who has a camera within reaching distance pretty much all of the time, I have to remind myself to reach for it during those in between moments. When there’s no birthday, or milestone, or special moment. When my kids’ hair isn’t brushed, their clothes are rumpled and stained, when they’re just being themselves and this is life now and it’s worth remembering. It’s worth picking up my camera for.
It’s worth letting go and just letting them be.
Don’t get me wrong, I still make them put on outfits, and do their hair before I take the photos sometimes but we don’t always need a special occasion first.
My dear friend Brooke had already taken beautiful photos to remember her oldest going off to Kindergarten, but she also wanted to have photos of her with her girls to just remember this time in her daughter’s life. This transitional, in between moment in their lives, so on a random weekday afternoon, we went outside to play. I sneaked in a few little video clips to surprise her with in her slideshow, something I’ve been trying to do a little of during some of my sessions lately, so give it a watch (& listen) through!
